Jack of All Shades

I'm absolutely in love with the colors in this one. I'm super happy with how it came out. Made for an art prompt about Arizona cryptids, I chose the jackalope because I think they're adorable and I've seen so many interpretations of them online. This one is a fairly traditional interpretation, minus the colors. I learned about the antelope jackrabbit, which has the largest ears-to-head ratio I've ever seen! They look so silly and awesome and their faces alone are kinda scary, the way they look at you like they've seen the secrets of the universe.

The reference photo was of an antelope jackrabbit leaping in the desert, but damn did I switch it up. After making "Too Hot To Trot", I realized how much I love using false and exaggerated color. It lets me paint rainbows without painting a rainbow. The antlers are painted with metallic copper acrylic marker paint, but it's not as discernible in a scan. Still, I think the flat color of them informs that they were made with metallic paint. Also, since making my "Sabo Tabby", I thought I'd give glowing eyes another go, this time with an actual halo around them. I really should have done that to the cat, but oh well.

I think my favorite part is the face. It was nice to have enough nuanced purples to do the shading I wanted; the other two sections don't have the depth I wanted, a consequence of a limited marker set. I love the glow effect I got with smudging the yellow paint, and I think the jackalope's face is quite an interesting shape. I should definitely paint more rabbits!
