Halloween Magnets (batch 3: dogs)
More magnets I made in Fall 2025. I'm very proud of these puppies. The golden retrievers were very fun to paint; I'd never drawn two animals physically interacting before. The pug ghostie was the first I made of this batch, because an artist friend of mine liked my Big Mood Pug and asked me to paint another pug. You can't really see her, though. The leaves in the background of the black lab magnet took much longer than you'd think; mapping out where each leaf goes takes a long time! And the tiny doberman pup got a new background because I didn't find the original photo very visually interesting.
It was during this season that I really saw marked improvement in my skill at painting dogs and cats. I'm really proud of the first two magnets, and I'm so glad I've found a medium I've been having this much fun with. Painting small things, I've found, is more challenging, but it's also more rewarding when you feel like you've nailed it. That's what's so great about acrylic markers: you get the opacity and boldness of acrylic paint, but you can get tiny, tiny details that I, at least, could never get with traditional brushes.
