Artist Revolution Quote

This originally was going to be a gift for a beloved mentor before he left the art program I was in, but he ended up leaving more suddenly than expected and I never got to give it to him. He was a staunch anti-fascist and leftist activist, so everything here has meaning in that way.

This is my largest acrylic marker painting to date, so it was a little intimidating. However, I love how it came out, and it made me more confident in drawing/painting hands, that's for sure! The quote means a lot to me personally as well, and has informed a big part of how I live my life and make my art in the last year or so. For many reasons.

Painted in 2025 with acrylic paint marker on a 20x16" canvas panel. The image in this project is an edited scan of the painting, as it needed to be scanned in two parts and stitched together, and the only stitched version I have of it is the edit I used for prints.

The arm of a Black artist is held up into the frame, covered in splotches of paint and holding a variety of paint brushes. A quote by Toni Cade Bambara reads: "The role of the artist is to make the revolution irresistible." Also there are flowers.
