What The Water Gave Me Magnet

This poor wet-ass kitty was my submission to the Nevada Fine Arts 4x4 art exhibit. I don't live in Nevada, but an artist friend sent me their IG reel advertising this exhibit since I make so many 4x4" canvas magnets. I HAD to submit. I had a photo of a just-bathed black cat in a bathtub looking absolutely pathetic in my folder of potential art references, and I thought I could paint a scene of a stray cat coming out after a rainstorm to adopt an unassuming passerby.

The background is entirely made up. I looked at a bunch of references of puddles on concrete and grass and did my best. I've been experimenting lately with blending the acrylic markers with my finger, which is what I did with the puddles, and I like the look of it.

This baby sold on the opening night of the exhibit, and I hope prints of him will do similarly. The title of the piece is taken from the poem of the same name, but in the context that the rain gave this passerby a new cat.
